TIM HORTONS EARTH DAY WALK/FUN RUN
Bayfront Park to Churchill Park
Registration at 8:45am; Walk begins at 10:00am
The 4th annual Tim Hortons Earth Day 5K Walk/Fun Run's destination is the annual Sunoco Earth Day Community Tree Planting Festival. At the finish line, participants have the opportunity to help improve the environment by planting trees to restore the urban woodland in this area and then joining in all of the fun activities of the festival.
EARTH DAY COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING FESTIVAL

Location: Churchill Park, Westdale, at the Aviary (details on location and parking - below). Sunoco and the Suncor Energy Foundation invite you to join Earth Day Hamilton-Burlington, along with our planting partners RBG (Royal Botanical Gardens) and BARC (Bay Area Restoration Council) for this free and fun event. 1,300 trees to be planted. Fun activities, workshops, eco exhibits, free draws, CSA farms, Aviary, and more.
Directions:
The tree planting festival is located at the Aviary in Churchill Park in Westdale. The exact address (check it out on Google Maps or Mapquest) is 85 Oak Knoll. Westdale's streets are patterned after a hub, rather than on a grid. The simplest route is taking Paisley, going North to the very end and then turning right onto Oak Knoll. The HCGN, COG, and EFAO are partnering to host the 2010 Seedy Saturday. The event will consist of a seed exchange (over 400 varieties of seed available for trade, donation, or free), seed vendors, displays and information about community gardening opportunities that exist in the city, and a line-up of engaging speakers throughout the afternoon. Refreshments will be provided by Food Not Bombs, and Sky Dragon will be serving their in-house roasted coffee.
Prof. Sarah Wakefield, University of Toronto, will be presenting the impacts of community gardening in Hamilton, as well as a review of community garden policy. Kevin Hamilton, a Canadian Organic Growers representative and local farmer, will be presenting on the topic of seed saving and seed politics. Finally, Theresa Phair, from the McQuesten Communtiy Planning Team, will be discussing her group's journey in developing a community garden in their neighbourhood.

Event Description: Position Responsibilities: EcoHouse is looking for four volunteers to participate in the Stoney Creek Canada Flag Day Parade (May 29, 2010 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm). The volunteers will walk or ride a bicycle through the 2 km parade route, promoting EcoHouse. Two volunteers will ride the tandem bike and two other volunteers will carry a banner.
Arrive a 1:00 pm to affix bunting and Canada flags to the bicycle.
Walk/ride in the parade from 2:0 pm – 3:30 pm.
Take down bunting etc. From 3:3:0 pm-= 4:00 pm.
Qualifications: Must be able to walk 1.9 km and stand on feet for 3 hours.
Must be able to ride a bicycle
Sun hat and sunscreen recommended
