Bring your Mom and Walk for Nature!
Saturday, May 8th, 2010
Royal Botanical Gardens
8:00am - 12:00 noon
What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend than with Mom and Mother Nature. As part of the 2010 Walk for Nature on Saturday, May 8, take a hike to a waterfall, go Nature Questing, and enjoy fun family activities. At the same time you will be helping to support local groups that work to protect nature in the Hamilton area.
The annual walk takes place from 8 a.m. to 12 noon beginning with free admission to the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) Arboretum and Nature Centre on Old Guelph Road. Walkers can choose a 5 or 10 kilometre route following the beautiful north shore of Cootes Paradise. Those who choose the longer route will hike to Hamilton’s magnificent Borer’s Falls.
During the walk, participants will be able to practise their sleuthing skills in Hamilton’s first “Nature Quest” adventure. Afterwards there will be special activities for children at the RBG’s Nature Centre, free refreshments for walkers, interactive displays from local environmental groups, and the always popular live birds of prey featuring hawks and owls.
The Walk for Nature is hosted by the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club (HNC) and Royal Botanical Gardens and sponsored by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Wild Birds Unlimited.
In addition to raising money for the HNC, walkers will have the option of donating up to half of the money they raise to one of the partner organizations: Green Venture, Conserver Society of Hamilton & District, Royal Botanical Gardens, and Hamilton Conservation Foundation.
Top fundraisers and Nature Questers will be eligible for special prizes, and everyone who raises $110 or more will receive a thank you gift.
