Turn Your Classroom into A Science Adventure!

TEACHERS, JOIN ONE OR MORE COMMUNITY SCIENCE PROJECTS FOR THE CHANCE TO WIN AN EXCITING PRIZE WITH YOUR CLASS!

Motivate your class with the chance to win one of three fun prizes! From January 15th to June 1st, your class will have the opportunity to complete stewardship and data collection activities to earn entries into a draw. Multiple entries are possible.

To get involved, you and your class will need to…

  1. Choose a project (s) and sign up online
  2. Complete the required activities and actions within the project
  3. Submit any related data to be included in our Hamilton-wide projects

Entries can be earned from our community science projects in the following ways:

Spongy moth egg sac removals: Each day you take your class to participate, with data submitted at the end, earns you 1 entry. This project runs winter into early spring, but not beyond. Get your trips lined up before the spring thaw, when egg sacs will hatch!

Waste audits: You can earn up to 2 entries from this project, one for the initial waste audit you complete, and one for the follow-up wherein changes to your class’ waste production are documented.

Litter clean-up: Each day you take your class to participate, with data submitted at the end, earns you 1 entry!

Bat buddy project: Earn an entry by installing a bat box and sending before and after photos, or by monitoring your bat box for signs of use. Additional resources coming soon.

Birds: Complete bird counts as a class on your school property or during a field trip. Additional resources (including tracking sheets and instructions) coming soon.

Submissions will not be counted past June 1st, 11:59 pm. Entries will be stored, and the draw results will be announced on June 3rd, with winning classrooms contacted with information on how to collect their prize of choice. Any questions can be directed to the education team at [email protected]

Rules

  • Submissions must be received between January 15, 2026 and June 1, 2026 at 11:59 pm.
  • Winners will be selected by random draw on June 3, 2026 and contacted by email. Winning classes will choose their prize in draw order. If we are unable to reach the selected winner(s), we will continue drawing names until we run out of entrants or all three prizes have been claimed.
  • Participation process: sign up for a kit, complete the action(s) outlined in the kit, log data, and submit data. Each action completion plus data submission = 1 entry. Additional limits and details are included under specific projects.
  • Classes can complete stewardship and data collection activities multiple times, but data from each trip must be logged in its entirety and in their own respective submissions (no “spacing out” data to gain more entries)
  • Participating class schools MUST be located physically in Hamilton in order to enter contest
  • Each class must enter as an individual contestant, represented by their teacher. Multiple classes, including entire schools, cannot enter as a single contestant.
  • The class' teacher must be the contact point and representative for their class as a contestant, including initiating the contest entry and submitting data.

Prizes

  • Pizza Party for the winning class
  • Scholastic gift card
  • Biodiversity sticker pack designed by Kayla Bezkorow

Participation Prizes

  • All participating classes will receive a slideshow highlighting the collective impact of the Community Science Projects. We encourage you to go through this as a class and talk about the benefits of working together to have a bigger impact, even when we don’t personally know everyone we are working with!
  • Each class will also be offered a selection of seeds from Green Venture’s seed library. These can be planted in class and studied, planted to bring home, used in seed ball making, or planted on site at the school.
