Land Acknowledgement
Green Venture’s operation center, EcoHouse, is situated on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabeg, and Attawandaron nations, within the lands protected by the Dish with One Spoon wampum agreement. We acknowledge that Green Venture is a part of this agreement and we are committed to being stewards of the land. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous peoples – including the Métis and Inuit – from across Turtle Island (North America). We are committed to reconciliation and protecting the land for those who will come after us. We continue to learn about the rich history of Turtle Island and its Indigenous Peoples so that we can better understand our roles as Treaty People, neighbours, partners and caretakers.
Visit the EcoHouse
Open to the Public: We encourage the public to explore the grounds, and read the community guidelines upon entering.
EcoHouse is home to a variety of interactive indoor and outdoor demonstrations promoting environmental education and sustainability. The property is open to the public to visit and enjoy. The best way to see them is through an education program, as part of a workshop, or during an open-house special event, but Green Venture also offers self guided tours of the EcoHouse and grounds.
These hands-on displays around the historic Glen Manor property offer engaging learning opportunities discussing a number of sustainability initiatives and allow visitors to learn something new! EcoHouse is also home to a natural play area for children, community gardens, our specialty display gardens, the solarium, vermicomposting worms and water conservation education displays.
