OUR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES (2020-2023)

Our mandate: Green Venture empowers Hamiltonians to implement greener
practices in their homes and communities to make our city a climate champion.

Our strategic objectives:

Reduce climate vulnerability and impacts on our community

We will:

  1. Reduce hard surfaces and replace them with green infrastructure that is better for filtering water and absorbing carbon
  2. Increase our urban forest coverage with community restoration plantings and improved approaches to street tree, park, and private property tree planting and stewardship.
  3. Reduce runoff from driveways, asphalt roofs and other polluting surfaces with on-site solutions such as rain barrels, rain gardens and other green stormwater infrastructure methods and education programs that can help prevent flooding and improve water quality

How we will measure success:

  • Number of Depave Paradise demos
  • Number of green infrastructure installations (sq ft)
  • Number of people engaged
  • Number of trees planted

Help Hamiltonians make their day to day lives greener to reduce emissions.

We will:

  1. Provide unbiased and expert guidance to residents interested in improving the energy efficiency of their homes to ensure maximum impact for money spent
  2. Provide Hamiltonians with resources to reduce their CO2 emissions in the areas of waste, water and transportation
  3. Bring together neighbours to look at collective actions, such as tree planting or depaving or waste reduction that they can pursue collaboratively

How we will measure success:

  • Number of Energuide visits
  • Number of people engaged
  • Number of Climate Action pledges
  • Number of collaborative climate action projects initiated

Work with Hamilton youth to drive climate action

We will:

  1. Facilitate workshops for youth environmental leaders (in collaboration with other organizations and to connect Hamilton youth together)
  2. Train youth ambassadors in addressing climate concerns specific to their neighbourhoods/communities
  3. Use existing education programs to provide youth with climate action plans and pledges for their homes, neighbourhoods and schools and recognize and reward participation.

How we will measure success:

  • Number of youth engaged in leading conservation & stewardship actions
  • Number of youth engaged in climate action plans/pledges
