Green Venture is your one-stop shop for environmental and outdoor education in Hamilton! We offer fun, interactive, and curriculum-linked educational programs in English and French for Kindergarten to Grade 12. We cover all different environmental themes and all areas of curriculum, with options for in-school visits or field trips to EcoHouse. Our programs include professional development opportunities for youth, engaging field trips to EcoHouse, and in-school programming (to bring environmental education directly to your classroom) and more!

Field Trips

Visit EcoHouse to enjoy outdoor, nature-based activities including nature walks, creek visits, environmental education workshops, and smoothie bikes. We customize your field trip experience to match your group’s needs, interests, grade, and subject.

SHSM Certifications

We offer several of the certifications required for the various Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs offered at Hamilton secondary schools. Our offerings include certifications for Arts & Culture, Construction, Energy, Environment, Health & Wellness, Horticulture & Landscaping, and Non-Profit SHSMs. We are a Program Partner to the Canadian Wildlife Federation providing WILD Education (Project WILD and Below Zero) in the Hamilton area.

In-School Workshops

Fun, hands-on, and engaging nature-based workshops with connections to the Ontario curriculum to inspire youth environmental stewardship from kindergarten to Grade 12. You can choose from our most popular workshops, or contact us with customized workshop requests. Available in English and French.

Air Care:

Is air quality important to you? Us too! We each take over 20,000 breaths every day. Poor air quality can be particularly harmful for children because they take in more air per kilogram of body weight than adults. That’s why we are committed to teaching Hamilton Elementary School students about air quality, and how to make a difference in the quality of air in their spaces!

Precious Pollinators

Learn about our precious pollinators that help keep our biodiversity thriving. Learn about monarch butterflies with their fascinating life cycle. Includes a milkweed seed ball activity to create a habitat and food source for monarch caterpillars.

Wiggly Worms

Includes a fun Food Sorting Game, interacting with and holding the worms. Students will learn about vermicomposting, a great alternative for people who do not have access to green bins. Our worm bins are also available for rental!

Rethink! To Reduce Waste

Participate in a Waste Sorting Game to learn about where garbage goes, the three R’s, strategies to reduce waste, and waste guidelines specific to Hamilton.

Structures

With a game of structure charades, an exploration activity, and structure design, your class will find structures that exist in nature and learn how humans impact natural structures.

Living With Critters

Featuring bird nests and real life animal bones and skulls. Your class will learn how animals find and build their shelters, how humans impact their homes, and what we can do to help. Includes a fun, hands-on shelter building activity.

Fixing Flooding

Build miniature cities and learn about the impact of stormwater runoff and green infrastructure solutions (e.g., rain gardens and permeable pavements).

Roots & Shoots

Want to learn how to reduce your food waste? Explore with River, our hand and rod puppet, how to grow new food from leftover fruit and veggie scraps.

Smoothie Bikes

Our Smoothie and Lightning Bikes make a great addition to field trips and in-school workshops! They connect well to the Energy units in grades 5 and 7, and to a handful of SHSM certifications. Inquire about other curriculum connections from grade 4-12.
