Volunteer Orientation at Laidlaw Church

This event has already taken place.

Do you want to commit to regular stewardship at our green spaces across Hamilton?

During this event, volunteers will learn how to perform basic maintenance at various green spaces, including plant identification, weeding, pruning, mulching, and more. You'll also learn about the amazing Low Impact Development (LID) features at Laidlaw, designed to manage stormwater runoff by utilizing natural processes, and gain valuable skills to help steward green spaces across Hamilton.

Volunteers will also learn about the benefits of native plants and why we prioritize them at our sites, along with important safety guidelines to ensure everyone’s well-being during stewardship activities.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just curious, everyone is welcome. Bring your friends and family to connect, contribute, and learn how to support green infrastructure sites around Hamilton!

What to Bring / Wear:
Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, a sunhat, and sunscreen, and bring a reusable water bottle. We will provide tools, gloves, bags, and anything else we may need—but feel free to bring your own gloves and tools if you prefer.

Transportation + Parking:
The Route 3 Cannon bus will take you to the Cannon at Ottawa stop, which is directly in front of Laidlaw United Church. Additionally, there are bike racks on the property, and a parking lot is available.
