Understanding Air Quality: Borrow an Air Sensor

Concern for our air quality is increasing year by year, with increased wildfires, urban developments, and ongoing air pollution. While we might be able to see the changes in air quality on some days, it's not something that can always be detected with our eyes.

As concern increases, it’s also important that we have tools to access to help inform us. Green Venture is now loaning mobile air sensors on a weekly basis. These sensors, AirBeam3, are best used to measure particulate matter (PM) in the air. Particulate matter consists of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. The AirBeam3 best measures PM2.5, which is particulate matter that is 2.5 micrometers or smaller. Commons sources include burning fossil fuels, vehicle emissions, burning wood, and industries. Though this tool is useful, it is not as reliable or accurate as monitoring instruments used by regulatory bodies.

Monitoring data can be viewed online through habitatmap.org/aircasting. A guide provided with the sensor will direct you on setting up the monitor and connecting it to the program.

Borrow a Sensor

Green Venture has two Air Sensors now available to the public, to be borrowed for a week at a time between now and December 11th 2026 and restarting again in the new year, on January 8th. Each monitor comes with a guide that helps users navigate the tool easily and indicates that any questions regarding its function can be directed to [email protected].
