Green Venture Presents: Stormwater Week 2026
Green Venture is hosting the 5th annual week-long campaign about stormwater in Hamilton!
In March 2019, the City of Hamilton declared a climate emergency. Climate change is forcing us to adapt to extreme weather events, shifting seasonalities and many other issues including urban flooding. Since then, we have seen an increasing number of record setting storm events in Hamilton coupled with increasing drought events forcing us to shift the way we view water. This years events will take you across Hamilton as we learn about how water in all its different forms, affects all of our lives in unique ways.
Come out to these FREE events in collaboration with some fantastic organizations such as Bay Area Restoration Council (BARC), Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA), Halton Region Conservation Authority (HRCA), HamOntYouth, and Water Watchers! Come to one event or come to ALL and find YOUR connection to Water!
Stormwater Week will take place August 10-16, 2026.
Join us on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 6:00-7:30PM EST at Bayfront Park for an HHRAP Walk and Talk!
To kick the week off, Halton Region Conservation Authority will be leading a walking tour around Hamilton Harbour! The HRCA is 1 of 4 conservation authorities that oversees watersheds in the City of Hamilton. They also lead the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan, commonly referred to as the HHRAP. This action plan uses 16 environmental indicators to determine the health of Hamilton Harbour. The goal of this action plan is to remove the Harbour from being listed as an Area of Concern. Come out and learn all about the work being done and how this plan has taken root.

Join us on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 10:00-11:30 AM EST at Saltfleet Conservation Area for a Wetland Conservation Tour
Join Hamilton Conservation Authority staff for a guided walk through the Saltfleet Conservation Area. Explore how newly created wetlands mitigate flooding while creating biodiverse habitats for local wildlife.

Join us on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 5:00-8:00PM EST at Van Wagner's Beach for a beach clean-up lead by HamOntYouth
Join us at Van Wagners Beach at Confederation park for HamOntYouth's annual beach clean up! This beach clean up is a great way to join the community in removing debris and garbage that can make its way back into our waterways, harm wildlife, or disrupt overall enjoyment of this space. Each year, large numbers of community members come out and make such a great impact all while having a great time! Come out and join us!

Join us on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 3:00-4:30PM EST at Westinghouse HQ to explore the Biinaagami Giant Floor Map
Drop by and learn about the Great Lakes and their watersheds with this exciting experience! Bay Area Restoration Council will be brining out their Binagaami Floor map. This GIANT floor map spans 8 M by 11 M giving you the opportunity to really analyze all the details of the great lakes.
"Trace the steps of an Anishinaabe Water Walker as she welcomes you to the Great Lakes-St.Lawrence watershed. Marvel at the vibrant, deepening blues of the lakes’ bathymetry as you walk along their flowlines. Soak up the diverse languages that came to life on the lands and waters and read the names of waterbodies in those original names. See how the land is being used among the network of waterways that flow across the landscape and whose land they flow through. Find the places most special to you — and be inspired by all the places you could go"

To close off Stormwater week, take a stroll to some amazing gardens and get inspired to add green infrastructure to your property! This tour includes 14 past participants from the Rain Ready Hamilton program, administered by Green Venture, showcasing low-impact development (LID) projects including anything from permeable paving, rain gardens, and other stormwater catchment features!
