Our 30th Anniversary Party: A Sustainability Gathering

Read to learn more about the steps we took to make this party more environmentally-friendly!

This year, Green Venture is celebrating 30 Years of environmental wins!

We’re commemorating this milestone through a campaign and party. However, of course, we want to stay true to our values and make this a low-waste and nature-filled event, especially since this event is taking place during Plastic Free July! Explore more below about how we’ve incorporated low-waste principles into our event.

Activities

We have activities to cater to adults and children alike!

Tea Blend Making- enjoy the plants around us through creating your own tea blend with guidance from Both Side Studios herbalist Katie! Consider making a tea that will taste well on ice for those hot summer days.

Salve Making- appreciate the soothing powers of plants by making your own salve. Learn this craft and take home your creation.

Seed Ball Making- create seed balls to give thanks and give back to nature by spreading native species across Hamilton. This tactile activity is a favourite among children.

Other Features:

  • Special guest Bird Friendly Hamilton Burlington

  • Silent Auction

  • Door Prize Draw

  • Seedling Station (take home your own seedling- subject to availability)

Drinks and Treats

Catering (Food):

We’ve ordered our catering from our friends at Pinch Bakery and Plant Shop! We’ve made sure our menu will be both delicious and environmentally-conscious by:

  • Having a meatless menu
  • Sourcing local
  • Ordering just enough for what we need
  • Opting for treats inspired by what’s in-season in Ontario

Homemade Drinks:

To harness and appreciate the magic of nature, we’re creating custom drinks by making simple syrups out of plants around us. Additionally, we’re avoiding single-use bottles in our process. The dandelion and spruce tip needed to make the syrup were harvested right in a staff member’s backyard.

  • Butterfly Pea Lemonade
  • Dandelion Syrup Drinks
  • Spruce Tip Syrup Drinks

Servingware:

Events create lots of unnecessary waste. This is a larger scale-event, and we want to show that it’s possible for small groups of people to host low-waste events- even if there is often extra work involved if you’re DIYing it like us. We’re deploying some strategies to ensure our waste is minimized:

  • Using reusable cups
  • Using reusable plates
  • Napkins, which can be composted afterwards, will be the only disposable item
  • Ensuring extra food does not go to waste
  • Having reusable display plates

Decorations

For our magic of nature theme, our team came up with some creative and low-waste ways to decorate the property!

  • Upcycled Bunting
  • Repurposed Lights
  • Jars and Lights
